Dororo has been raised a boy by her parent(s) and that's the only reason she identifies as a 'he'. Purely because she doesn't know better, hasn't been treated as a girl by anybody in her life and most certainly not because SHE wanted to BE A BOY.

Perhaps her parents raised her like that to keep her safe from predators but I doubt boys that age would be that much safer in those times.

The above statement is a fact. Dororo is not trans. She is a girl. The term and idea of trans was never a thing historically during the time where this show takes place during the Sengoku Period (1467-1600). Furthermore, the characteristics of this period include many social upheavals, constant warring with opposing warlords, and other forms of conflicts, hence the nickname of "Age of Warring States". As a result, of this hostile, ever changing, and dangerous event, rape and selling their bodies was a very common event for women at the time.

Dororo's parents raised her as a boy because they feared for her safety, especially with Dororo's father's position (most likely some kind of leader). As a result, they raised Dororo as a boy, even though she is a girl. She was not willingly trans, it was due to the idealogies her parents instilled upon her since birth that being a woman was not safe in this era. This is why she feels uncomfortable when people think she is a girl. She views being a girl as sort of a weakness, which is evident in the many horrors she has witnessed on her journey.

Although I do agree there were some (almost zero) people that MAYBE carried some sort of belief that they were trans in ancient times, there is not much historical record to prove this point (there are a few, a FEW I have come across). Your view of "ITS NOT "TO FIT THE CURRENT AGE"", I have to say is wrong in my opinion because the thinking of transgender did not exist.

In addition, people say that she felt uncomfortable when she was exposed as a girl, but I think anyone regardless of gender, would be either afraid or uncomfortable in a situation where he/she is naked in front of a group of people.

Finally, just want to make my point even clearer, Dororo wants to think that she is a boy because it provides her with more security (women are more likely to be attacked or taken advantage of, especially younger ones), and secondly, her parents forced this thinking onto her to protect her.

Another point I just want to bring out, is please stop dragging this gender nonsense into a good anime, it spoils everyone's mood with all this argument. There are not 63 genders, there is only two genders scientifically. Male (XY chromosomes) and female (XX chromosomes), there are other arrangements of sex chromosomes, but these are merely genetic mutations (mostly caused by nondisjunction). Although there are a few people across the world that have these rare mutations, it is not enough, nor is it right to say that they count as genders. THERE ARE ONLY 2 GENDERS.

Responding to the reee guy, none of your arguments disprove that Dororo identifies as male. All you are saying is that trans people did not exist during that time (which is completely and utterly false.) It seems that people like you often say that since the term "transgender" has existed only for about a century, trans people did not exist beforehand. This is like saying gravity didn't exist before scientists discovered it. There have been documentations that describe findings of trans people in ancient Rome, Greece, America, and France (the first accounting of gender dysphoria.) Scientific consensus agrees that trans people have probably existed for as long as gender roles have, but you don't really seem to care about science and expert opinions all that much, so maybe I need to speak more to your "level."

The sad thing is that you are trying to have a discussion on Dororo's gender, yet you don't even understand what gender is. You conflate sex with gender, and then talk about intersex (which is not a gender, but a sex.) I have no idea why you brought up chromosomes either. It has nothing to do with someone's gender identity. Yes, people born as one sex will typically have a gender that aligns with that sex (such as a biological female identifying as a woman.) But gender is far more complex than you make it out to be. The scientific consensus is that gender is a spectrum. I don't know why you said "scientifically" when the scientific community disagrees with your "2 gender" notion. I advise you actually do some research before you make demonstrably false claims, but then again, we are talking on a discussion board on an anime wiki page (and you're most likely a young teenager who has only heard about gender through anti-SJW reactionaries on Youtube, soooo...)

Well its a fictional character who realy cares? Stop your marching and prosteting for fictional charators ! Go do some real good and spend your time at a nursing home or a homless shelter for youths that are trans or whatever that need your real help instead of wasting your time defending 2d chartors. Why do people in the west love to complicate things? I'm sure the origin of the anime, Japan, the Japanese, never bothered much with Dororo's gender, and I don't even think they would think to bring up the term "transgender" because that has nothing to do with this?

Before reading all of this I didn't even know people had an issue with Dororo's gender. I thought people were smart enough to understand words with direct meaning. Everyone is just finding a reason to be mad.
